Sunshine and Fairy Dust {What I Wore Sunday}

There's something absolutely magical about the way the sun filters through the trees just so at mid-day, just a few hours before sunset, and gives the grass such a marvelous green hue, and a touch of gold to everything it glances off of. I was just playing around with my camera when all of a sudden I saw a glow of light. I snapped the picture and came out with the one above, streaming with rays of light.

Vintage Fashions {Fashion Saturday}

Hello everyone!

I am super excited abut this post! I adore vintage style fashions, and I am going to share some of my recent favorites with you today. Unfortunately, since there are so many I love, I can't share them all in one post! I may have to end up doing a few more of these!(: Today, I intend to focus on the fashions of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, some of my favorite periods for fashion, though ther are so many I love!

The ladylike suit...

A very smart pencil skirt...

Strapless evening gown with a nice, full circle skirt...

Classy plaid pants (ooh, I love these so much! I can see myself wear them in muted shades of gray or blue)...

Cute little velvet dress from the 30s...

What do you think, can you pull these looks off today? I like the idea of taking vintage style pieces and updating them with a touch of modern, maybe a statement necklace or shoes. Or you can just make your outfit completely vintage inspired! I might do either, depending on my mood. What about you?

WInter Wonderland {Part 2}

Hello everyone,

I hope you all have had a wonderful week! Mine has been busy, but I'm looking forward to relaxing over the weekend, and writing my next short story assignment (I'm still working out the plot, though! It's easy to say a person changes his or her mind, but the WHY is the hard part!).

I miss the snow so much! It's a bit scary to be driving in, especially if you live on a hill (like I do!), but it just fills me with happiness to look at it. Pictures truly do not do justice to the real thing. It's so white and clean, and makes the world seem brighter and more beautiful. And now, spring is peeking its head out from around the corner, and winter's on its way. The tulips are growing, and soon the trees will be in bloom, and we'll have the beauty of new life that spring brings with her. I suppose I'll be happy to see it come, though sad to see winter go!

A whole new level of loveliness was added after the ice storm...dangerous, and bitterly cold, but a true marvel. I had never seen anything like it! Everything was coated in a clear layer of ice.

A cup of cocoa is the perfect way to warm up after coming inside half-frozen!

Vintage Loveliness {What I Love Wednesday}

Hi everyone,

I hope you're all having an amazing week! I was so worried about getting all my work done since I was over a week behind in my readings (oh, and I just happened to read some stuff I apparently didn't have to), but it was all for nothing, since I've completely caught myself up. Yay! Now I have time to get all those blog posts up that I've been meaning to, haha.

I'm just slightly obsessed with everything vintage-styled right now (evidence for the verdict: my last two posts, exhibits A and B). I've been watching old movies like crazy, and leafing through old movie magazines (for those of you that like these, did you know that the internet archive has a bunch of old Photoplay issues?? Cary Grant, Shirley Temple, all sorts of goodness), listening to 40s style music. Here are some of my favorite things from this week!

1. This movie. It's amazing, and has such a good message. Oh, and I've kind of got a major crush on Gary Cooper right now, which makes me love it even more.

2. This quote. I started watching Mr. Smith Goes to Washington on President's day, and now, since it's George Washington's birthday, it's a good reminder of the blessings of liberty.

3. Vintage-style makeup, as worn by Elizabeth Taylor

4. This hairstyle. It looks very 20's style to me!

5. And it's not vintage, but I love this dog so much. He makes me smile every time I see him.

What are you loving this Wednesday?

Black and Gray {What I Wore Sunday}

I picked this skirt up at Goodwill last week. It reminded me so much of a poodle skirt (though it's not quite as full), and so I just had to snatch it up! It's surprisingly warm and cozy, and I love the little flower detail! Unfortunately, I had the hardest time styling it! I finally settled on this sweet little blouse layered over a puffed-sleeve shirt for a classy, fifties style look.

Outfit Details:
Skirt: Thrifted
Blouse: Old Navy
T-shirt: Thrifted
Flats: Marshalls
Tights: Fred Meyer

Quotable Quotes {Fiddling with Typography}

Last night, I was browsing a collection of quotes when I stumbled across one by G.K. Chesterton, which I liked very much. It is so very true, and thought-provoking as well. It inspired me to play a little with typography. I am fairly happy with the result, though there are a few small things I'm not quite satisfied with. I created the type on separate layer, then added in a photo from my last trip to the Oregon coast, and voila! An attempt at typography. What do you think?

Have a lovely night!

Circle Skirts {Fashion Saturday}

It's been awhile since I did a fashion inspiration post! Every week, I wake up with the idea that I'm going to do it, then I forget about it completely! Oh well...c'est la vie, right?

I have been a little obsessed with circle skirts lately, because of my friend, who asked me if I knew a good pattern for making one (the tutorial on Ruffles and Roses blog is my favorite), and then all I could think about were circle skirts. If you're like me and watch a steady amount of old 50s TV shows and movies, you probably see a lot of these skirts too!

Next week I plan on doing a vintage fashion post, and there will definitely be some more circle skirts!

Have a lovely weekend!

Roses are Red

Hi everyone,

I had so much fun with valentines this year! It's probably because I didn't make any last year (the first year I didn't!), and I wanted to make up for lost time. I made little rings for friends and cousins (tutorial coming soon!) and for my grandmother and godparents, I made little collages. They were so quick and easy to make, and I think they turned out really cute.

For this one, I cut up different red roses, for the other, I did different shades of pink. Then I cut out a little white heart, wrote "love" with my red calligraphy pen, and glued it on. Voila! I had cute cards ready for Valentine's day!

On the back, I wrote one of my favorite Bible verses:

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

-John 3.16

It got me thinking...If God loves the whole world throughout all time, why can't I follow HIs example and be loving to everyone I meet? If we all did this, and weren't bitter or grudging towards those we know, wouldn't the world be a much better place, not only for ourselves, but for everyone in it? The Bible instructs us to love our neighbor. Who is our neighbor--the person who lives next door? Our neighbor is every one of our fellow men and women.

It's a good lesson for me to keep in mind, especially when I'm angry at someone.

What do you think?

Have a lovely day!

Flowing in the Breeze {What I Wore Sunday}

Hi everyone,

You are probably wondering two things; whether I dropped off the face of the earth, and why I am posting what I wore on Sunday on Friday. My answer is all-encompassing: mid-terms. I have never studied harder or longer in my life! But now I can breathe a sigh of relief, and thank God for giving me the strength to go into battle with tests and essays and come out alive. I am incredibly grateful.

I played around with photoshop to bring out the sleeve, my favorite part of the outfit.

This may have easily become my new favorite blouse. I have always had a soft spot for romantic, flowy sleeves, and so when I found this one on sale, I snatched it up. Do you have any features you like to look for when clothes shopping?

Outfit details:
Blouse: Marshalls
Tank top: Thrifted
Cameo: Fred Meyer (I think it's by Curfew)
Skirt: Ross
Flats (which you can't see): Marshalls

I hope you all have a lovely weekend! My postng schedule should be back to normal now that exams are over (until finals next month!), and I have a few fun things planned, like a belated Valentine's day tutorial!

Winter Wonderland {Part 1}

Hello!

I've been meaning to post my favorite snow pictures for awhile now, but I never got around to it until now.

Still...better late than never!

I love the snow, even though it's cold and wet, and can be dangerous, even though the frigid air nips at my fingers and blasts in my face, even when the snow soaks my hair and coat.

It's a beautiful, magical part of creation, and it makes me so happy that God blessed us with it, even for a short time.

It's all gone now, except for the dirty piles left over from the plowing, but looking at these pictures makes me feel warm (which may be a bit of an oxymoron) with the memories of running around in the snow with my sisters, taking pictures and laughing at the wonder of it all.

Have a lovely day!
