T-shirt Scarf

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd show you one of my latest refashioning endeavors today. ^^ Do you remember the t-shirt necklaces that I made awhile back? Well, I decided to take the necklace idea a step further and make some t-shirt scarves. I've been seeing them all over lately...on blogs, in online stores, and even while shopping...and I thought, why spend $20 dollars for a scarf that I could make practically free, and give my own style? I also knew that my mom really loves those scarves, so I thought it would make an ideal birthday present for her. ^^ I even had the perfect shirt -- an old, worn-out tee that had bleach stains on it. So I took my scissors and cut off the hem, then cut strips of varying sizes. I stretched them out...braided some, knotted others, added beaded charms and finally sewed it all together, and ended up with this:

Pretty cute, huh? I liked it so much once I finished it, I didn't really want to give it up!

And here's a photo of me modeling it, so you can see how it looks on (I forgot to take off my necklace before shooting this, but it doesn't look half bad layered, IMO):

Well, what do you think? ^^ Have you tried your hand at making anything like this? If you have -- I'd love to see it!

Have a lovely day!

100th Post! & a Peek at My Latest Project

Hi everyone,

I've been working on a lot lately...jewelry-making, sewing, a bit of drawing, some writing....like I said -- LOTS. Now that I've finished the GED (whoot!) I have lots of free time, so I'm trying to fill it with activities that keep me busy and out of trouble...as they say, "The idle mind is the devil's workshop." Anyway, my biggest project right now is a mini-album, which I want to finish by the time my family goes down to California (celebrating my graduation and 18th birthday, and my mom's 40th birthday). The idea was a combination of wanting to collect the autographs of Disney characters while not just having them on blank pages, and having a mini scrapbook of our vacation. I got the idea of making my own mini album from one of my favorite blogs, Punk Projects, and then got to work making my own mini album.

The cover is the most important part of making a book seem interesting...you shouldn't judge by them, but so many people do, and having a rotten cover exudes the message that it's a rotten book (in my opinion...I'm crazy for pretty covers, though I've learned that many books with pretty covers have not-so-pretty insides, and vice-versa). I wanted to make my cover something really special. SO I pulled out my hot glue gun and a mix of fun items -- sequins, papers, lace, buttons, etc, -- and got to work. I needlepointed a retro-style "D" for Disneyland and stuck that to the cover, along with my perler bead Donald. Finally, I ended up with this:

Fun, huh?

Now, here's a glimpse of what's going on inside...I wanted to make the pages decorative and fancy, but then also simple enough so that things could be added to them and they wouldn't look too busy.

What do you think? I really love how it's all coming together...(: I can't wait to start filling it with mementos from our vacation!

On a non-crafting side-note -- this is my 100th post! I'm really happy that I've made it this far in my blogging adventure, and thrilled that I've made some great friends doing it. ^^

Have a lovely day!

Vacation Photos

Hi everyone,

Well, that science test breezed by and I finished early, which is supposed to be a good sign, though it can be bad -- it either means that you know the answers or that you don't know anything and are just rushing through it. Since I reviewed my answers carefully, I feel pretty good about it. Next comes the test I'm dreading the most -- math. I've been brushing up on my skills, though, so it should be fine.(:

Anyway, I thought I'd share a collage of photos I took from my last vacation. It was gray and drizzly, but we still managed to have a great time, and I always love riding the ferry! There was a man feeding Cheetos to the seagulls, who would actually come and grab them out of his hands! I had never seen them so close and never realized how BIG they are...at least 4 times the size of our ring-necked dove.

The other pictures are from a hike that we took (it started to rain about halfway along the trail, so we had to walk all the way back in the drizzle...of course, we had no umbrellas or hoods!).

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse of my trip!(:

Have a lovely day!

Some artwork...

Hi everyone,

I have been busier than a bee over this past week...I'm working towards completing my GED (I took the writing test yesterday, and I'm doing science tomorrow!), getting back into choir and my class at church, not to mention crafting and spending time with friends before they head back to school next month. During my down time, however, I am working on a few fun, though time-consuming, projects (like refashioning some clothes and making a mini album -- I never thought about how long it would take to scrapbook 40 pages!). I've also gotten back into drawing, and I thought I'd share one of my most recent attempts at drawing a flapper from the 1920s:

I really love all the colors and the whimsical design of it all...for those of you who know proportions, though, I'd like to hear your thoughts on how I did with that...something seems off to me, but I can't quite put my finger on it!

Have a lovely day!

Now, Back to Blogging...& a Refashioned Purse!

Hey everyone,

I'm back! After a looong, much needed break from blogging, I'm ready to begin anew! I was all set to blog during my vacation, and then again whenbi came home, and my final decision, after being completely drained from all the excitement, I decided it might be a good idea to take a break for awhile and let my creative juices rejuvenate. Now, though, I'm ready to start up again! I plan on blogging (God willing) every other day at least, so look forward to many future posts! I'm also thinking of varying topics from crafting to other things...like book reviews and fashion blurbs...what do you think? ^^

Anyway...here are a few pictures of a bag that I refashioned! I did this one awhile ago, and I really love how it turned out...I took my old leather camera bag that had been sitting in my giveaway pile, and thought it might be kind of fun to remake it into something I would use. It's nice, since it holds so many things and has lots of different pockets...so it's great for carrying a camera, cell phone, wallet, book, etc...everything I could possibly need! I used some of the leftover fabric from my plaid circle skirt and came up with this:

I didn't initially plan on the ruffles...but it turned out to be easier to make it with ruffles...which I hot glued and then stitched down.(: the result is fun, girly, and casual. I added the different buckles too...vintage ones that I thrifted. ^^ but I did learn a valuable lesson -- it is NOT easy to hand stitch on leather! I could have had this done so much faster if the leather weren't so thick...

Well, I hope you're having a lovely day...hopefully enjoying some nice summer weather like I am!
