One of my Favorite Things

Hi, everyone! I'm blogging from a hotel in southern California right now. I'm excited to finally have Internet access after going without it since Sunday! But we've been having fun so far, and I'm definitely excited for the rest of this trip!

This record player is one of my favorite recent purchases. It's adorable and it works great to play my growing collection of vintage records.(: and I do enjoy the sound of records playing...it's just so homey and nice to me. I decoupaged the cover with some wrapping paper and a sweet deer silhouette, and it was perfect! I was excited for to use it in a photoshoot, soooo when my parents gave me a new camera for my birthday, I lugged everything outside and snapped a bazillion pictures. :P isn't she cute?

Mustard Yellow {What I Wore Sunday}

Want to know something weird? I have always really disliked the color yellow. I never wore much yellow as a little girl, and I hadn't worn any throughout my teenage years. And yet...I've recently become obsessed with mustard colored things. I bought a mustard shirt, cardigan, and now this purse. I really love that it's not quite yellow, but almost more of a brown, which makes it more versatile...it's almost a neutral.
I never thought I'd be won over by this color, but I definitely am now!

My weekend was sort of a mix of busy and relaxing, if that makes any sense. On Friday I finished up my final exams, and now I'm done with the community college I've been attending (yes!! I haven't exactly enjoyed my time there...) and I'm set to transfer to Regent University later this fall (I'll be doing their online program to earn my bachelor's). I'm pretty excited to start school, and more excited to have a break to do some of the things I've been wanting to get done for ages (like thoroughly cleaning and organizing my room). For me...summer break has officially begun!

From Time to Time {A Movie Review}

Hi everyone! So today I decided to do something a little different--my first movie review! I watch movies almost as a hobby, and I thought that I might start up a regular series of reviewing movies I've seen (and liked/loved) recently. Let me know what you think! Synopsis:
This movie begins towards the end of World War Two. Tolly's father has gone missing, and his mother sends him to live with his grandmother, Mrs. Oldknow, at her manor in the country. Tolly quickly discovers that the manor not only has an intriguing history, but it also houses a secret--it's haunted by the ghosts of his relatives. Tolly soon finds himself entangled in the lives of the ghosts, and in solving the mystery of Lady Maria's stolen jewels.

Thoughts:
I wasn't sure about this movie at first when I read the Netflix synopsis. In fact, the only reason I had clicked on it was because the cover was done in a way that reminded me of Downton Abbey, and I immediately recognized Maggie Smith as well. I laughed when I saw that it was written and directed by Julian Fellowes, director of Downton Abbey and the recent Titanic miniseries, and that made me decide to give it a go. Anddddd...I loved it.

Anyway! The acting was amazing, and the costumes were gorgeous. There was a great mix of 40s fashions and Regency fashions (as the ghosts were from the Regency period). Mrs. Oldknow wore some really gorgeous pieces, and Maria Oldknow had some beautiful Regency gowns (some of the most beautiful I've ever seen, in fact). Maria's hair was also lovely, which I had to comment on several times. And the settings (mainly the manor house and its grounds) were amazing...bright, beautiful, and intricate.

The story itself was also an intriguing one, switching back and forth between Tolly's life and the life of the past Oldknows. I found myself more caught up in the ghosts' story than Tolly's, though sometimes they became so interwoven that it was hard to tell the two apart. At sometimes the plot was slightly preadictable, but overall, it kept my eyes fastened on the screen, and I did not want to stop it for anything! It also has a little bit of a Downton Abbey vibe, which I enjoyed immensely.

Well, I'm sure you all are tired of my rambling! Overall, it was an excellent movie, and one I'm sure I'll watch over and over again. It's rated PG, and may seem to be aimed at children from the storyline, but it can be frightening at times (there were three parts that scared the living daylights out of me!), and it is also sad in parts, so I would not say that it's a good one for younger children to watch. Still, it's a very heartwarming film, and I highly recommend it (especially if you're a Downton Abbey fan looking for something to watch while waiting for series 3!). If you're a Netflix subscriber, From Time to Time is available to stream instantly.  I'd rate it 4.5/5 stars.

How to Make a Bow Belt

Hi everyone! Remember that now belt that I wore in an outfit post last week (the one I promised to have the tutorial up for a week ago...)? Here is how to make it! It was originally inspired by an Anthropologie belt, and I found it fairly quick and easy to make up my own versions.

You'll need:
1. Strip of leather (or faux leather) long enough to wrap 3/4 of the way around your waist (I used an old belt and cut it to size)
2. Silk scarf
3. Needle and Thread
4. Hot glue gun
5. Two large split key rings

How To
1. Cut your scarf in half length-wise. Hem raw edges.

2. Cut leather to size if necessary.

3. Slide a key ring over one end of the leather, wrap around and glue in place.
Repeat on the other side.

4. Slip one of your cut scarf pieces through a loop. Then sew it in place.

Do this on the other side as well.

How Very Fascinating

I was sent this lovely dress by Sugarlips, a fashion company that I had not heard of until recently, but I'm already in love with their clothes. Not all of the styles lived up to my personal standards, but I was thrilled by the modest length and neckline of this dress! It's classy and feminine, but also very comfortable, and I like that it can be dressed up or down and layered.

I was also very happy for an opportunity to wear my new fascinator! I personally love the look of fascinators (especially after watching the royal wedding last year!), but it's always hard to find the right occasion to wear them for. This one was an impulse buy...it was just too elegant to pass up!
