In the Kitchen

Last weekend my sister and I had our cousin over for a cakepop baking and decorating party. Moriah had just gotten one of those little cakepop makers for Christmas, and she was eager to test it out. So we baked up a batch of strawberry cakepops, got the chocolate all melted, and then we started to decorate. It was a mess, but it was incredible (and tasty!) fun! I can't wait to do it again...maybe next time with a devil's food cake mix and a dark chocolate shell. Mmmm! The party also offered the perfect opportunity for me to practice my indoor photography...it's something I've wanted to work on for a long time, and it used to be so frustrating! But now I'm getting a bit more used to the technique, and happy to be able to take in-focus pictures without a flash. Still nowhere near perfect, but better. These pictures were taken mostly during the clean-up time, once everyone but my sister and I were out of the kitchen. We had the music cranked up, and in between scrubbing chocolate from the tables, I snapped about a hundred photos.

Have any of you tried making cakepops before?

The Leather Jacket

Jacket: Target // Dress: Gift // Tights: JCP // Boots: Gift

It's staring to almost feel like spring here...the weather has warmed up a bit, and the sun has been poking its head out a bit more often. I even found the first dandelion of the season in the backyard, see? Dandelions always make me think of my grandpa--even though they were just weeds, he loved their bright, smiling faces, and was always eager to go on a dandelion-picking expedition with my little seven year old self. We would gather fistfuls of dandelions and clover and create beautiful bouquets that my mother reluctantly placed in vases on the kitchen table. Now I smile whenever I see a dandelion, though I'm quite sure not many people share my love of the flower! Sometimes I'll even still pick a bouquet of them...and I still love plucking the flowers that have gone to seed and blowing the seeds away with a puff of air while making a wish!

Despite the first signs of spring, we've still had frost! It was so pretty, I just had to snap a couple pictures. I love the intricate patterns the frost creates--it makes even the most mundane things seem beautiful!

Christmas Eve

Skirt: Shabby Apple // Lace dress (worn as top): Marshall's // Jacket: JCP // Earrings: My Grandmother's // Shoes: Thrifted

Hello everyone! I know, it's been a long while since my last post (two whole weeks, I think!). My life got a whole lot busier once school started up, and January has just been a busy month in general. I woke up sick this morning and decided to clear a bit of my schedule to rest and catch up on my reading for school, and maybe just read a favorite novel. It feels nice just to kick back and not worry about having to go anywhere or anything like that.

Anyway! This is what I wore on Christmas Eve. Awhile ago, I won a giveaway over on Kellie's lovely blog for a Shabby Apple gift certificate. I had been eyeing this tulle skirt for a long time, and despite the fact that I knew it was completely frivolous, I knew it was what I wanted to buy. The first time I tried it on, I wasn't sure that I liked it...it seemed huge and poofy, a lot more showy than what I would usually wear, and it was about a foot too long, even in heels! But it really grew on me, and after I had chopped off about six inches of the tulle, I was in love with it. And what better occasion to wear it for than Christmas Eve? I layered a black lace dress underneath (an old Christmas Eve dress), along with a velvety tuxedo jacket my mother bought me at JC Penney's on Black Friday, and topped off the look with my Grandmother's glistening crystal earrings. My Grandmother was quite the fashionista herself, and I think she would have loved the outfit (she was always trying to get me to add a little sparkle to my outfits!).

Did any of you ladies dress up for Christmas/Christmas eve?
