Purple-Hued {What I Wore Sunday}

Outfit Details:
Dress: Thrifted
Sweater: Target
Belt: Windsor
Skirt: Made by me
Shoes: Marshall's

I was a bit frustrated with myself while putting together this outfit. The dress is one of my favorites, and I've been itching to wear it again for months. It does have several awkward issues, however--first, it's quite short. A lot shorter than I think modest. And secondly, the top part does not fit me well. I had forgotten these issues when I decided I wanted to wear it on Sunday, then remembered again once I had tried it on. I still wanted to wear it, so I started brainstorming for ways to make it work. I pulled out a gray sweater to cover the straps, and belted it with an edgy corset-style belt I picked up in California last year (and hadn't really worn, either). Then I remembered a purple-y skirt that I made awhile back and put that on underneath. It is a slightly lighter shade of purple than on the dress, but I think it works!(;

Do any of you have tips for making different pieces work better for you?

Have a lovely day!

Bits of Randomness {What I Love Wednesday}

Hello everyone! I realized that it's been awhile since my last edition of What I Love Wednesday, so I decided it might be nice to do another one.(: I'm currently loving:

1. Colorful Vintage Phonographs (I recently bought one of these for myself in a pretty teal color!)

2. This headband, sent to me by the lovely Elisha (be sure and check out her sweet blog!)

3. These two phrases, which I use on an almost daily basis (and you may understand why if you've ever seen Doctor Who)

4. Finished logic homework (YES!)

5. These lovely updos

What are you loving this week?

The Sweet Smells of Homemade Candles

I wanted to make my mother something extra special for Mother's day this year, since she does so much for me and puts up with so much. I finally settled on something she always loves--candles. I had a kit for making little pie-shaped candles, and that was the goal for this! My thought going into this was, "How hard could it be? Just melt and mold!" And it made a mess! Oh my...I wasn't sure what to do!
It was then that I thought of one of the jam jars that we had saved. It was an interesting shape and just the right size! So I remelted the wax and poured it in, along with an apple cider scent. Then I topped it with dried lavender, and added a wick, and then I had a sweet smelling candle. Later, I decided to decoupage the glass and cover to give it a vintage-y look.
It was such fun to make, despite my initial disappointment, that I want to make some more for myself.

Have any of you ever experimented with candle-making before?

Little Yellow Buds {What I Wore Sunday}

Outfit Details:
Blouse: Made by me
Skirt: Made by me
Wedges: Sketchers

Hello, everyone! I hope you're all having a wonderful week so far! Mine has been good...I've been working on catching up on my reading for school (there's so much I may never be caught up!), spring cleaning, and a bit of crafting.
This outfit turned out looking very vintage to me, which I love. I made the blouse last year from a vintage pillowcase--I loved the print and the lightweight fabric, and so I thought it would make a nice top.(: And then the skirt is made from a sheet...I realized as I was walking into church that it was almost like wearing my pajamas, haha!

On a side note, my finals for school are coming up soon, and I was wondering if any of you would like to guest post during the weeks where I'm busy studying and don't have as much time to pay attention to the blog. It can be about just about anything you like! If you're interested, leave a comment, or better yet, drop me a note at deckedoutinruffles@gmail.com.

I hope you all have a lovely week!

More Fiddling with Typography

I've been so inspired by words recently...quotes by famous authors, and favorite Bible verses, along with inspirational phrases from pinterest. I've started reading my Bible promise book as a devotion lately, and the comfort and wisdom contained in just a few short words is immense, and I marvel at God's greatness. A couple days ago, when I probably should have been studying, I started arranging some of my favorite passages and quotes onto photos, and I ended up with some fun pieces that I thought I might share with you.

If you like, feel free to use these images wherever you fancy!

A Splash of Color {What I Wore Sunday}

Outfit Details:
Shirt: Thrifted
Belt: Thrifted
Skirt: Ross
Tights: Fred Meyer
Shoes: Thrifted

Hello! I hope you all are having a lovely weekend! The weather is so gorgeous today that I just want to lay under the sun and nap. Unfortunately, I'm stuck inside studying for a history midterm. Still, I do love studying American history! Later I on going with my family to see the new Studio Ghibli movie Arietty...I've loved all the lives I've seen from them, and I'm sure this won't be an exception. Personally, I love the colorful animation!

Oh, and on a side note, some of you may have noticed that my pictures have been disappearing off the blog! Apparently I exceeded the amount of space I can use for free on Photobucket, so they hid all my pictures. But they should be up soon, and I'm working on different options for uploading photos.(:
