Simply Casual {What I Wore Sunday}

Outfit Details:
Button-Down: Thrifted
White Tank: Forever21
Cardigan: Thrifted
Belt: Gifted
Skirt: Thrifted/Refashioned
Leggings: Fred Meyer
Boots: Ross

I hope you all had a lovely weekend! I slept poorly on both Friday and Saturday, and so by Sunday I was wiped out--but not too much to go out with a friend for a movie (we saw John Carter, which I thought I would hate, but I ended up loving it!), and some serious shopping (at Forever21 of course!), which we finished up with my first taste of Jamba Juice (yummy!). Then I came home and crashed on the couch. I spent the rest of my night watching old movies with my sisters.(: I threw this outfit on after church (literally...oh--this would look cute with this, throw on a belt, and there we go!) for a dressy/casual look.

Did any of you do anything fun over the weekend?

That Lovely Smell of Old Books...

Hello everyone,

First, I'm sorry I completely dropped off the face of the earth for the past two weeks! I spent last week studying, then I had finals this week. Fun stuff, haha! But I'm relieved it's over, and now I have time to do all the work I've wanted to do all quarter--like spring cleaning! I have a bunch of tutorials and fun stuff planned for the blog as well, so I'm also excited to get to work on that.

Now, on to the subject of the post: books!

I've been an avid reader ever since my mother began reading me Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain and other books of fantasy, adventure, and history. I started collecting piles of books of every genre and filled bookcase after bookcase until I had a total of five in my cramped little room. It's like living in a library, surrounded by books, old and new, with new worlds to discover and new friends to make. As I got older, I gravitated towards the classics, like Dickens and Austen, and their style of language--we don't talk like that anymore, though I often wish we did! Just over the last few years, I've started collecting vintage books, mostly from the early to mid 1900s. The feel of their pages, and their well-worn covers, and of course, that wonderful, musty smell that they carry. They are works of art on their own, and their beauty is what draws me to them.

What kind of books are your favorite? Do you have any treasured volumes?

Highland Girl {What I Wore Sunday}

Outfit Details:
Sequin top: Thrifted
Sweater: Kohls
Skirt: Ross
Belt: Thrifted
Tights: Fred Meyer
Shoes: Thrifted

Plaids and tartans always put me in mind of Scotland, of bagpipes, greenery, and Brigadoon (one of my favorite movies). I love how they can be subtle or bright, and classy or casual (I do love my plaid button-downs!), preppy or edgy--whatever floats your boat! And of course, I wear them every chance I get! Today was cold, and I love having an excuse to layer up, so I belted on this cozy sweater and stuffed my hands in my pockets. It kept me cozy and warm through church and then picture-taking.
Today I realized that I have only one week left of school, a very exciting fact indeed! Especially since I have all this pent-up sewing inspiration...I really hope it hurries up and finishes! And then I also realized that there are only two more Sundays before Easter, one of the two best holidays of the year. Those two thoughts were enough to make my day; that and finishing homework early!

What makes your day today?

Wonderful Whimsy {What I Love Wednesday}

Hello everyone,

I'm pretty sure I have never used that many "Ws" together in my life, yet I am in a wonderfully whimsical mood at the moment, and my current loves reflect that.

I'm sure that you all have experienced the feeling of growing anticipation when something exciting is on the horizon, though it may be weeks away. You can't help but be happy and smiling, as you count down to that one magical day. I'm currently feeling that way about school (I bet you thought it was something more amazing than that!)--less than two weeks to go, and this quarter is *finished*! Just the thought makes me smile. Of course, there's finals first, but then, an entire week's worth of freedom, before spring quarter commences...

Well, enough rambling on that! In case you haven't guessed, the number one thing I am loving right now is the idea of *spring break*.

Other than that, I'm currently loving:

1. Hayley Westenra's music. This girl has an amazing voice, and her singing the hymn "Abide with me" is simply breathtaking.

2. Hearst Castle. My family is going to San Francisco this summer, and this is going to be one of the highlights of the trip. Everything about it is so beautiful!

3. This hairstyle. Isn't it gorgeous? I really want to try it, but I'm afraid my hair isn't long enough yet.

4. Medieval/Renaissance styled clothing. I always dreamed of being a princess when I was little, just so I could dress like this.(:

5. This darling tutorial by A Cleaner Closet , which I have actually tried out, with very nice results.

Have a lovely day!

Straight Lines {What I Wore Sunday}

Haha...the slit makes my leg look slightly malformed here...I assure you, it's not.

This outfit is a combination I wouldn't have really thought of, a beachy sweater combined with a velvet skirt. Yet, I think it works. The belted waist adds a touch of classy formality to what would otherwise be a strange outfit. It makes me wonder what other outfits I can come up with, combining casual and formal pieces for new looks. And then, to avoid too much black and white, I added a pop of color with my favorite blue tights.

Outfit Details:

Skirt: Thrifted
Sweater: Thrifted
Belt: Thrifted
Tights: Fred Meyer
Flats: Marshall's
Necklace: Calvin Klein for Target

I hope you all are having a great week!
