Well, I finally decided it was time to update my blog's look. So, on Friday, I sketched out a tentative design, and today, I downloaded the fonts that I wanted, created the graphics, and uploaded them. It is very nearly done, but there will still be small updates going on over the next couple of days or so. I'm hoping to have everything done tomorrow, though, so we'll see! I'm planning on updating my little bio on the sidebar with a font to match, and I'd also love to update my other pages (like my contact and about page, as well as the tutorials one...that one needs an upgrade for sure!). Until then, though, the blog here will be under construction, and might be a little messy in the meantime.
Anyway, what do you think of the look so far?

I like the new layout so far! It is simple but elegant. I hope it all works well for you, I know how templates can cause problems sometimes.
ReplyDeleteAye, the Spock/ Uhura romance is a bit sweet. And the part where she finally inderstood one of the reasons he keeps his emotions hidden. I just have trouble getting over the fact he's Spock, the Alien who rarely showed any emotion and never seemed to like anyone - except for Kirk and McCoy. (Though in the show I found the plots involving him and romance to be equally awkward as in the movie. Like that one with the plant where that girl turned him into a hippy and he went around giggling and hanging from trees. But I loved the ending of that one, how Kirk snapped him out of it. *Grin*)
Also, in the movie, I like to snicker at Kirk because Uhura is about the only girl in the universe who didn't fall head over heels for him.
I too felt guilty about rooting for BC through the whole movie. I even knew he was going to turn out to be Kahn - someone let it slip in one of the interviews and they tried to cover it up. Actually, I think BC let it slip, from what I've heard, he's bad at keeping secrets when it comes to the movies and shows he's in.) But, I still couldn't help wanting him to kind of win in the end. Or at least realize he could work with Kirk without having to knock him over the head and threaten to blow up his ship. And now I REALLY hope that if they make a third he will be in it. I think it might be wishful thinking as he is becoming so famous and it is hard to get him into anything since he's signed on to do Sherlock, but I still have my hopes.
Oh yes, I LOVED his coat! Another part I almost squealed during. Something like, "HE'S STILL SHERLOCK! HE HAS THE COAT!" Or something close enough to The Coat.
Oh! I had the same problem after seeing Mickey! I kept expecting the Doctor to show up of for there to be some Doctor Who reference. All I could think of was, "So, after he returned to earth he joined Star Fleet. Good for Mickey."
I think this goes to prove something though. If one throws a British actor into a movie the movie instantly becomes ten times better.
I'm a big one for simplicity, at least when it comes to layouts. :P Yes, templates can definitely be iffy at times! *shakes fist*

Blah...I kept mixing fandoms, haha! I confused the klingon with some DW alien, and when I saw them, I was like, "Those are not true klingon!!" But then I remembered and was able to sort out my confused mind.
And yes--I think that that is definitely the rule. British actors make movies ten times better...for the most part at least!
I think I was the only person in my theatre who wanted to start shouting, "NO, SPOCK! DON'T KILL HIM! UHURA! STOP HIM!"

Yes, The Coat does add to the cool level. It even makes falling off a building look cool...unless one is Watson.
It is easy to mix fandoms, especially if there are two packed full of Aliens. (Speaking of which, have you seen the second half of series seven of Doctor Who yet? I just finished it and am in a state of sulking.)
I've noticed there seem to be more flat characters in newer books than I've ever found in older ones. I've given up on a lot of books because the characters felt, dead or dull. I think there is a huge difference between leaving things to the imagination and just creating a lifeless character. I think it is sterotypes. Girls now have to be a certain way, boys another, and it just gets dull after awhile. But it never felt this way with the kids in Narnia. They always have felt real, just with enough missing that each reader and imagine them the way they like.
Weeeell, I have not seen the original movie as yet (new Trekkie here! I'm one of the only people in my family who enjoys Star Trek), but I thought that they way they did it worked really well. I think that it was great for adding depth to Spock's character--we see that he really does have emotions, and how much he really cares for Kirk. I kind of loved that. And also, it freaked me out that Kirk "died"! I was in utter shock, haha!

Yes! I just finished it on Monday! Wasn't that last episode amazing/mind-blowingly crazy/confounding?? I am still recovering from that episode. And that last bit with John Hurt. Who is he?? What is his role going to be in the new series?? Is he bad or good? I'm going nuts processing the whole thing.
I agree. It's so easy to find stereotypes in books today, especially, I think, in Young Adult books (I think the authors try too hard to make their characters able to relate to generally everyone). I love a good character with lots of depth and quirks and faults...it's what makes them interesting, just like it makes people interesting in real life.
