Remember when I posted a couple of weeks ago about the event hosted by Fresh Modesty, Bramblewood Fashion, and Natasha of What I Wear, What I do, and Why I do it? Well, I had wanted so badly to participate on time, but I ended up having a logic test that weekend that I had to cram for, and then due to some unfortunate events on Sunday (read: the sprinkler turned on right as my sister and I headed out to take pictures, and my skirt was soaked!), we were unable to take the pictures in time for me to link up. But I decided to do it anyway. I had so much fun coming up with the outfits, that I thought I might as well share them with ya'll.(:

I made this skirt a couple weeks ago out of one of my Dad's old t-shirts, and I was so excited to have a brown pencil skirt! I made it late at night, though, and in a bit of a hurry, so there are a few things I need to fix, but other than that, I am pretty satisfied with it.(: I wanted to challenge myself to style it a bit more fancy for Sunday, so I added the lace top and flowery belt, then I dressed it down the other two days for casual, around-the-house kind outfits. I'm happy to see that it's so versatile!

A Coat of Many Colors

Last Sunday my family drove up north into the country to see the tulip fields. We went to a less popular one to avoid the Sunday crowds, since it was the first nice, warm Sunday in awhile, and the tulips were finally in bloom (they had bloomed overly late this year). I hadn't been since I was a toddler, when my mother plopped me in a mud puddle for a picture (I had always wondered why I looked so uncomfortable in that picture!), so I was excited to go again! I still got muddy, though...without even realizing until we were in the car that my legs were covered up to the knee in dirt! How did that even happen? :P But the tulips were simply lovely, and I had such a good time! All too soon, the sun began to set and we had to leave, but we all had captured the memories on our cameras with both silly pictures of the family and elegant pictures of the tulips.(: Those cows, though? They were my favorite part of the trip. And very sweet for posing so nicely.(:

The Feel of a Skirt Blowing in the Wind {What I Wore Sunday}

They make me think, and then think again. But once I got it, it was almost enjoyable puzzling out the problems.(: Almost! But I do enjoy a challenge! What about you?

Lace Sandal Upcycle

It's definitely spring here, and almost flip-flop weather! I recently picked up a pair of Speedo flip-flops from Ross. The top is memory-foam, which makes them oh so comfy for walking in. When my family was at Disneyland last year, the sandals I had brought had ruined my feet after the first day (and since we were there for 3 days, this was pretty bad!), and so after dealing with it for two days, I finally asked my sister if I could borrow her Nike flip-flops with the memory foam. They were a size too small, but I'm sure they saved my feet that day! I'd been hunting for a pair of my own ever since, and so I was happy to find these! Only I wished they were a bit "prettier," so I came up with this:


They made up in about five minutes, and I'm really happy with the result! Now...on to the tutorial!



You'll need:
A pair of flip-flops (or strappy sandals)
Lace or ribbon trim
Hot Glue
Scissors



How To



1. First, hold your trim against the straps to measure how much you need, then cut. Do one side at a time in a "V" shape.




2. Using your glue gun, glue the trim to each side, starting at the center. Make sure to align the edges at the center so they match up!




3. Trim off any extra lace, and you're finished! Now you're ready to slip on your new sandals and wear them all the time!

The Glory of a Spring Morning {What I Wore Sunday}

Sunday was absolutely gorgeous. It wasn't quite as nice as Easter, but pretty close! It felt wonderful to be outside without a jacket and not have goosebumps instantly peppering my arms. Spring, it seems, has finally arrived after a long winter, and I am so very glad. The sun is warm, the trees are in full bloom, and the air is full of the smell of flowers and freshly mowed lawns (though ours is not one of them!). The sunlight was much too harsh in these pictures, and shows you how my pale skin can act as a reflector in direct sunlight! I jogged through the tall grass holding my skirt up with one hand and my camera with the other to capture pictures of the blossoms on our neighbor's plum tree. They were lovely against the blue sky!

A Blessed Easter {What I Wore Sunday}

I did everyone's nails for Easter, and my sister's are my favorite--I love the fresh, springy colors! I did mine really quickly before bed, so they're not quite as fancy, but I do like how they turned out!

I hope you all had a great Easter Sunday! My family got up several hours before church to have a big breakfast, and I, of course, overslept an hour so I had to deal with the mad rush to dress and slap on a bit of makeup, then fix my hair. I did it in ten minutes, which is definitely a record time for me! After church we had lunch at home, then headed over to my uncles house for dinner and an egg hunt, followed by a pretty epic game of Scrabble.

On a side note, I'm trying to come up with a way to lengthen this skirt to make it a little more modest, since this is a bit shorter than I usually like to wear, though the tights help a little. Any ideas?(: I was thinking of a black ruffle!

What did you do for Easter?

Holy Week

It's only a few more days till Easter (I'm really shocked at how quickly Lent has gone by!), and today we have Maundy Thursday, which commemorates Jesus' celebration of the Passover with his disciples before his capture and following crucifixion.

I drew this picture in September as a gift for my aunt after my uncle died. On it I wrote various passages about death, sin, and most importantly, salvation, since we knew for certain that my uncle is in heaven. I drew a Celtic style cross, and surrounded it with Easter lilies, angelic wings, and the passages (which read across, by the way!). I thought it would be perfect to share during the celebration of Holy Week and the anticipation of Easter.

Easter is an amazing time, and this year especially I've been working to shut out the images of candy, chicks, and Easter bunnies, and focus on the real reason we celebrate. He died that we might live. What's more beautiful and amazing than that?

One of my favorite passages at this time is from the book of Job:

"For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God."
-Job 19.25-26 KJV

Don't Count Your Chickens {What I Wore Sunday}

Blazer: Vintage Bobbie Brooks (I picked this one up at a thrift store with the original tags still on! I think it's from the 50s or 60s)


I made this skirt up over the weekend, and I'm pretty happy with the result! I had the fabric for it for awhile (from an old sheet I picked up at Goodwill), but I hadn't taken the time to make it until the middle of my spring break. I was originally so proud of myself for being able to figure out the measurements of making a circle skirt in quarters, but pride goes before a fall. I found out when it was nearly finished that I had made it too small in the waist! After much prayer and deliberation, I finally sewed a triangular panel at the back along the zipper, and it fit perfectly. Better than any skirt I've made so far. I was very thankful that I wouldn't have to pass the skirt down to my sister!

So, the moral of this story is, don't count your chickens before they hatch! (and rely on God for your every need.)
