A Shabby Chic Owl

Hmm...I seem to have a thing for owls. That's definitely how it looks! My perler bead owl from yesterday, an owl vase, an owl necklace, and now this. At least I'm not owl crazy. But I have to admit, there are definitely some cute owls out there.

For this guy, I used one of my favorite techniques - I covered up a not-so-cute plastic owl (who came from the dollar store filled with Halloween candy that tasted oddly like chalk) with phone book paper, then painted over it with acrylic paint. Then, to make it really stand out, I painted a coat of gold nail polish over the top. You may not be able to tell from the pictures, but it really shines...which actually made it hard to photograph.

Isn't he sweet? The one thing I love about owls is their wide eyes - that's what I find so adorable about this little guy.

An owl, a bear, and a duck

Now...you may be asking yourself - what on earth do an owl, a bear, and a duck have in common? As far as I know, the only thing that connects the three is the fact that they are all animals, but this owl, bear, and duck are very special.(; Why? Because I made them!

Did you ever play with perler beads as a kid? They are these little plastic beads that, instead of stringing them into necklaces or bracelets, you arrange on one of the plastic boards and then iron over. The beads fuse together and then you have a sweet little creation that you can turn into whatever you like....a magnet, a keychain, a hair clip, or even jewelry pieces! And the best part is, anyone can do it. You just need a a little patience and a smidgen of creativity. I made ornaments for my family years and years ago, when I was really little, and they turned out so cute! I think I still have some around somewhere...anyway, they're a great rainy day craft, and a good way to use up spare time.

A bear...(he's not a nice bear, as you can see from the blood on his mug. A little morbid, but cute!)

Slightly Belated Outfit Post 2/2

Hello again,

Here is my final outfit post. I really love this outfit because it's comfy and cute, and because I made the vest myself.(:

Isn't it sweet? It was meant to be a tank top, but somehow I made it waaaaaaaaayyyyyy too small....so it became a sweet little vest for layering. It was very simple to make, and turned out super cute, don't you think?

I've had so much fun doing this over the past week! I think it may mean doing a weekly outfit post...what do you think?(:
